Our adventure to the mangroves begins in Sierpe town, which is situated along the wide Sierpe river named after the name of the community. This is the largest wetland conservation area along the vast coast of Pacific Ocean in Central America, covering one hundred thirty three thousand hectares. Moreover, this wetland was declared Ramsar site (of great world importance) due to the large number of ecosystem resources it provides for wild animals.
At the moment we get on board, we begin to discover the rich diversity the area hosts and the name it is well-known; seven species of mangrove trees among which are the alcornoque tree (holds the Guinness record as the largest bean in the world) sangrillo trees, with its exposed root system gets the admiration of the visitors.
More than 40 species of fauna can be observed during our expedition, including three species of monkeys: Howler, White faced capuchin, central American squirrel, tití monkey (the last one endemic to Costa Rica and Panamá) as well as raccoons, bats, sloths, ant eaters, a great variety of marine/wetland and terrestrial birds, this is called by visitors as a “Live nature documentary TV show” or the “Natgeo Tour”.
We are a tour operator established in Costa Rica that offers hiking and mountaineering options for those who wish to explore the most remote and majestic places in Costa Rica.
